Description
The S.U.B. AX3 takes the single-cutaway silhouette that made Music Man’s Axis guitars famous and builds it into an accessible, road-ready package finished in Trans Red. Beneath the bound quilt maple top image sits a solid hardwood body, joined to the neck with the same sculpted 5-bolt design used on the Silo3. That contoured joint isn’t just for looks — it opens up the upper frets so you can actually reach them without a fight.
The maple neck runs a 25.5″ scale with a maple fingerboard and 22 medium frets, shaped with an asymmetrical carve that feels substantial in hand yet never gets in the way of fast playing. A satin finish keeps things smooth, and the neck-to-body transition is seamless enough that you forget where one ends and the other begins.
Tone-wise, the AX3 punches above its price with two high-output Zebra coil humbuckers, direct-mounted to the body and wired for five distinct voices through the 5-way selector. Flip through them and you’ll find everything from twangy, chicken-pickin’ single-coil snap to full-bodied, throaty humbucker growl — all controlled with straightforward single volume and tone knobs. A vintage-style tremolo bridge rounds things out, with individual saddles for dialing in height and intonation, plus a small resting area for your picking hand.
