This 2021 Fullerton Deluxe edition takes that single-cutaway design and pairs it with tried-and-true finish and hardware combinations pulled straight from the G&L Option Order menu, so you get boutique-level detail without the custom-order wait.
Every body is contoured alder or swamp ash, finished in a G&L Clear Tint Satin neck that keeps the elegance going all the way up the fingerboard. Choose from:
- Jet Black over Alder, 3-ply parchment pickguard, maple or Caribbean rosewood fingerboard
- Blueburst over Swamp Ash, 3-ply pearl pickguard, Caribbean rosewood fingerboard
- Purpleburst over Swamp Ash, 3-ply pearl pickguard, maple fingerboard
- Left Handed 3-Tone Sunburst over Alder, 3-ply parchment pickguard, Caribbean rosewood fingerboard
The ASAT name itself has history: Leo originally called this guitar the G&L Broadcaster in 1985, but Gretsch’s ownership of the Broadkaster trademark forced a rename, just as it had thirty-five years earlier with a different Leo Fender design. He settled on ASAT, military shorthand for Anti-Satellite.
Tone-wise, this guitar earns its reputation through Leo’s jumbo Magnetic Field Design single-coil pickups. Their narrow, wide-and-shallow bobbin aperture puts them in the same family as a P-90 or Jazzmaster pickup, but the MFD design adds punch down low and sparkling harmonic detail up top. Add in Leo’s Saddle-Lock bridge, which drives string vibration directly into the body’s end-grain for exceptional resonance, and you’ve got a guitar equally at home with twang, blues grit, or jazz warmth.
Built in the original G&L facility on Fender Avenue in Fullerton, California — the Birthplace of Bolt-on — since the company’s 1980 founding.
