Description
Long shelved at CLF Research, this offset body traces back to a 1969 sketch by Leo Fender himself, now reborn as the G&L Espada HH. Twin G&L alnico humbuckers anchor the tone: a smooth, articulate voice at the neck and a hotter, more aggressive character at the bridge — the same formula G&L has used on its other beloved HH models.
The wide Espada control plate keeps things intuitive with dedicated volume, treble, and bass knobs, each topped with a chrome CLF Research cap. Two mini-toggles round out the electronics: one splits both humbuckers for single-coil textures, the other acts as a kill-switch for percussive, stutter-style effects. Anchoring the whole instrument is Leo Fender’s 1979 G&L Saddle Lock hardtail bridge, a design prized for locking in sustain while staying comfortable under the palm.
Build-wise, the Espada HH pairs a body of alder or ash with a Caribbean Rosewood fingerboard, a 3-ply pickguard, and a gloss neck finished in vintage tint — details that shift slightly depending on the color option.
