Description
The G5655T-CB Electromatic Center-Block takes the classic Gretsch double-cutaway shape and adds a solid spruce block down the middle of its 1.75″-deep body. That block is the key to this guitar’s personality: it tightens up the resonance just enough to tame unwanted feedback while still letting the semi-hollow body breathe, so you can push into gain territory that a fully hollow Gretsch might resist.
Pickup-wise, it pairs a dual-coil Super HiLo’Tron in the neck with a Black Top Filter’Tron at the bridge. The HiLo’Tron brings a bright, articulate top end with a surprisingly solid low end and low-noise output, while the Filter’Tron delivers that unmistakable twangy growl Gretsch built its name on. A 3-way toggle and four G-arrow control knobs (individual volumes, bridge-only tone, and master volume) give you plenty of tonal ground to cover between the two.
Construction is five-ply maple throughout – top, back, and sides – with a bound arched top and back for a finished, upscale look. The bound maple neck carries a 12.5″ radius rosewood fingerboard, 22 medium jumbo frets, and pearloid Neo-Classic thumbnail inlays. An anchored Adjusto-Matic bridge works with a Bigsby-licensed B50 vibrato for pitch effects and smooth sustain, while Grover die-cast tuners keep things in tune. Finished in gloss Georgia Green.
