The top is layered spruce paired with scalloped X bracing, a combination that pushes projection and keeps the sound articulate even with double the strings ringing out. A classic center-positioned soundhole adds to the volume and openness of the voice. Below that sits Ovation’s Lyrachord mid-depth cutaway body — a composite bowl that resists weather and temperature swings far better than traditional wood, while still contributing to that recognizable Ovation resonance.
Up top, a sleek headstock design leads into a fast-playing neck with an Ovangkol fretboard and matching Ovangkol bridge, so fretting and intonation stay smooth despite the extra tension of 12 strings. Die-cast tuning machines hold pitch reliably, an important detail on any 12-string. When it’s time to plug in, the onboard Ovation CE304T preamp works with a CT-600A pickup to translate that acoustic character straight to the board or amp.
Finished in an ultra-thin black satin coat, the AB2412-5S looks understated on stage but delivers a big, layered sound live or in the studio.
