The Larrivee OM-40 Legacy brings together traditional orchestra-body proportions and a tone recipe that’s stood the test of time: mahogany back and sides under a Sitka spruce top. That combination leans into midrange warmth and clarity, letting notes ring out with smooth articulation rather than boomy overtones — ideal territory for players who split time between fingerstyle passages and light-to-medium strumming.
Larrivee’s scalloped hybrid bracing does a lot of the tonal heavy lifting here, coaxing extra low-midrange girth out of the top without making the guitar feel muddy or overdriven under a light touch. It’s a bracing approach built for nuance, rewarding dynamic playing over brute force.
Visually, the OM-40 Legacy wears its heritage well. Maple binding and bold rope purfling trace the body’s edges, complemented by a maple heel cap and fingerboard binding, while an ebony fingerboard, bridge, and headplate keep things sleek and functional. Diamond inlays mark the fingerboard, and the neck meets the body at the 14th fret for familiar upper-fret access. Open-back 18:1 tuners and a bone nut and compensated saddle round out hardware that’s both practical and period-appropriate. A satin finish and tortoise pickguard complete the vintage-informed look.
