The G9470 “Clarophone” resurrects the spirit of the banjo-ukuleles that were everywhere in parlors and vaudeville halls during the early 20th century. Gretsch built this one with real substance behind the throwback looks, giving players an instrument that’s as satisfying to strum as it is to look at.
The maple neck and fingerboard, finished in an antique semi-gloss stain, pair with pearloid dot inlays for a warm, aged aesthetic. Underneath the hood, an 8″ Remo Renaissance head sits atop a round-rod brass tone ring, delivering the crisp, clear projection that made these instruments popular in the first place. A maple flat-back resonator adds punch and volume, while dual coordinating rods and 12 brackets keep the head tension consistent and the tone reliable over time.
Grover Sta-Tite die-cast tuning machines hold pitch dependably, and the no-knot tailpiece simplifies restringing. With a 15.5″ scale and a 1 3/8″ nut, the Clarophone offers a comfortable, vintage “U”-shaped neck across 21 frets.
