This isn’t a stock folk acoustic with a logo slapped on it — Alkaline Trio had real input into the Malibu’s look and voice, starting with the heart-shaped rosette that instantly sets it apart on stage or at a bonfire. The body traces back to Fender’s late-’60s Malibu shape: compact, folk-sized, and easy to play unplugged whether you’re at a backyard show or working out songs at home.
Mahogany top, back, and sides give the Malibu a warm, focused voice, and scalloped “X” bracing under the hood keeps the top light and free-moving. Less wood in the bracing means less mass holding back the soundboard, so the guitar breathes more, projects harder, and picks up extra nuance you’d lose with heavier bracing.
Where this one really stands out for electric players is the neck. Fender put a maple Stratocaster neck with their signature “C” profile on this acoustic, so your fretting hand gets that same familiar, fast feel you know from a Strat — a genuinely rare combination on an acoustic instrument. It’s paired with a 20-fret rosewood fingerboard, and both the nut and the compensated bridge saddle use Graph Tech NuBone, a material that splits the difference between plastic and bone — smoother string movement, cleaner sustain, and more consistent tone across the fretboard than standard synthetics.
Multiple body binding and the Alkaline Trio heart rosette round out a look built to be noticed, not just heard.
