Born from a collaboration with Chicago punk outfit Alkaline Trio, this Malibu acoustic stands out the moment you spot its heart-shaped rosette and all-mahogany finish. This particular unit was a store demo, so it’s gently used but ready to deliver Fender’s take on a late-’60s folk-body design that’s equally at home unplugged at a beach bonfire or on a small stage.
The mahogany top, back, and sides are dressed in a natural gloss finish, with scalloped “X” bracing inside that trims excess wood mass so the top vibrates more freely. That translates into a livelier, more nuanced tone with better projection than you’d expect from a compact-bodied acoustic.
What really sets this guitar apart, though, is its neck. Fender borrowed the maple Stratocaster neck profile, a comfortable “C” shape, so electric players feel instantly at home. It’s paired with a 20-fret fingerboard, a Graph Tech NuBone nut, and a rosewood bridge with a compensated Graph Tech NuBone saddle, hardware that resists the string-binding issues of cheaper plastics while staying close to the clarity and sustain of real bone.
Multiple body binding and the Alkaline Trio-designed heart rosette round out the visual personality, making this as much a statement piece as a gig-ready instrument.
