Description
The Doheny V12 takes the original G&L Doheny’s celebrated MFD single coils and reimagines the platform around a new generation of MFD humbuckers, developed by brothers Dave and Johnny McLaren with unrestricted access to Leo Fender’s late-era CLF Research designs. Their goal was ambitious: build the most musical MFD humbuckers ever produced on Fender Avenue, capable of covering series-humbucking, parallel-humbucking, and true single-coil tones without sacrificing power or clarity in any mode.
Leo was a firm believer that guitarists deserved more hands-on control over their tone, so the V12 gives each humbucker its own dedicated 3-way mini toggle for instant switching between coil configurations. The toggles carry period-correct color coding — white for the neck pickup, red for the bridge — echoing CLF’s original parts-bin aesthetic.
Visual details reinforce that vintage CLF identity: a one-piece aluminum control plate/pickguard finished in black crinkle powdercoat, paired with chrome-plated CLF knobs for volume, treble, and bass. The Dual Fulcrum Vibrato bridge pairs a 3/16″ machined stainless steel vibrato arm with modern forged brass saddles and block, blending old-school looks with current hardware performance.
The Doheny V12 ships in thin urethane finishes:
- Alpine White over Alder, black crinkle pickguard, Caribbean rosewood fingerboard
- Jet Black over Alder, black crinkle pickguard, Caribbean rosewood fingerboard
- Purpleburst over Swamp Ash, black crinkle pickguard, maple fingerboard
Every G&L USA instrument, including the Doheny V12, is still built at the historic CLF Research / G&L facility on Fender Avenue in Fullerton, California — the Birthplace of Bolt-on — continuing the work Leo Fender began when he founded CLF Research in 1966 and launched G&L in 1980.
