Part of Gretsch’s Roots Collection, the G9240 Alligator Biscuit Roundneck delivers the raw, cutting volume that made resonator guitars a stage necessity long before amplifiers existed. Whether you’re chunking out rhythm, digging into fingerstyle patterns, or sliding a bottleneck across the strings, this guitar throws its swampy, biting voice straight to the back of the room.
At the core of that sound is Gretsch’s Ampli-Sonic diaphragm, a resonator cone hand-spun in Eastern Europe from nearly 99% pure aluminum. It’s the same engineering philosophy behind every great Gretsch resonator: a cone built to move air and project tone with real character, not just volume for volume’s sake.
The body is fully constructed from laminated mahogany — top, back, and sides — finished in a semi-gloss vintage sunburst with aged white/black/white binding and matching purfling. Non-cutaway with classic F-holes, the body measures 18.87″ long, 3.5″ deep, with a 9.875″ upper bout and 14.125″ lower bout. Internal sound-well bracing keeps things structurally solid under string tension.
The mahogany neck carries a medium V profile with a rosewood fretboard, 19 medium jumbo frets (12 to the body), aged pearloid inlays, and a vintage-correct 1930s-style Gretsch 3×3 headstock. Nut width sits at 1.75″ over a 25″ scale, with a double-action truss rod adjustable at the headstock.
Hardware includes a hard maple biscuit bridge with an ebony/maple saddle, a weathered bridge cover, Grover Sta-Tite tuners, a bone nut, and nickel-plated fittings throughout. The weathered poinsettia cone cover and trapeze tailpiece round out the vintage aesthetic. It ships strung with D’Addario EJ16 phosphor bronze light strings (.012-.053) and includes a truss-rod hex wrench.
