Description
Part of Gretsch’s Roots Collection, the G9230 Bobtail Square-Neck is built for players who want that unmistakable resonator growl with the option to plug straight into a PA or amp. At the heart of it sits Gretsch’s own “Ampli-Sonic” diaphragm, a resonator cone hand-spun in Eastern Europe from nearly pure aluminum, delivering the loud, cutting tone that lap-style and bluegrass players chase. A Fishman Nashville Series resophonic pickup rides under the spider bridge, so you get that same biting acoustic character amplified without fighting feedback.
The body is laminated mahogany all around – top, back, and sides – finished in a semi-gloss Vintage Sunburst and trimmed with aged white binding, giving it a warm, road-worn look right out of the box. Internal sound-well bracing and an “F” hole sound opening help shape the resonator’s projection. Up top, the square mahogany neck runs 19 medium jumbo frets (12 to the body) over a rosewood board dressed with aged pearloid position markers, all finished to match the body. A 25″ scale length and 2″ nut width give lap players plenty of room to work a slide.
Hardware backs up the vintage vibe: a 1930s-style Gretsch 3×3 headstock, Grover Sta-Tite die-cast tuners, a bone nut, and a nickel-plated bridge cover with a poinsettia design cover-plate. A trapeze tailpiece anchors the D’Addario EJ42 phosphor bronze strings (.016-.056) that come installed.
