Description
The G9210 Boxcar revives Gretsch’s 1930s resonator blueprint in a square-neck configuration purpose-built for lap and Dobro-style playing. Its laminated mahogany body — top, back, and sides all matching — is finished in a semi-gloss honey mahogany stain that keeps the vibe rustic without sacrificing durability, and the classic “F” hole cutout lets the tone breathe.
At the heart of the guitar sits Gretsch’s “Ampli-Sonic” resonator cone, hand-spun in Eastern Europe from nearly pure aluminum. Paired with the ebony-tipped maple spider bridge and topped with a nickel-plated poinsettia-pattern cover plate, it delivers the loud, biting projection that made resonators a stage staple long before amplification was common. A trapeze tailpiece anchors the strings for consistent tension and sustain.
The mahogany neck carries a squareneck profile ideal for slide technique, with 19 medium jumbo frets (12 joining the body), a 25″ scale, and a 2″ nut width for comfortable string spacing. Aged pearloid position markers and the period-correct 1930s-style 2×2 headstock — finished with an aged pearloid face — tie the whole instrument back to its Roots Collection roots.
Hardware includes Grover Sta-Tite die-cast tuners, a bone nut, and nickel-plated fittings throughout, all built to hold up under regular gigging. It ships strung with D’Addario EJ42 phosphor bronze strings (.016-.056).
