Long before anyone plugged in, players relied on resonator guitars to cut through a room, and the G9200 Boxcar carries that legacy forward with real authenticity. Part of Gretsch’s Roots Collection, this round-neck acoustic pairs a laminated mahogany body — top, back, and sides — with a soft “V” neck profile that feels natural in hand for long sessions of blues, bluegrass, or slide work. The semi-gloss honey mahogany stain gives it a warm, vintage look that matches its vintage-inspired tone.
At the heart of the instrument is Gretsch’s own “Ampli-Sonic” resonator cone, hand-spun in Eastern Europe from nearly 99% pure aluminum. Paired with the ebony-tipped maple spider bridge and nickel-plated poinsettia cover-plate, it produces the loud, biting, metallic voice resonators are famous for. An internal sound-well and trapeze tailpiece round out a build designed for projection over finesse.
The rosewood fretboard carries 19 medium jumbo frets (12 joining the body) with aged pearloid position markers, set to a 15.75″ radius and a 25″ scale length. Grover Sta-Tite die-cast tuners and a bone nut keep tuning stable, while the double-action truss rod adjusts from the headstock — a nod to the 1930s Gretsch 3×3 headstock design with its aged pearloid face.
